Paul Clement confirmed his sixth signing of the summer on Wednesday with the arrival of Colchester United goalkeeper Sam Walker on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the Madjeski and follows Marc McNulty, John O'Shea, David Meyler, Darren Sidoel and Andy Yiadom into the club.

Walker moved to Colchester from Chelsea's academy squad in 2014 but decided to leave the club this summer after his contract expired.

He made 44 appearances for the Essex club last season keeping an impressive 12 clean sheets in what was a lacklustre season for United.

He is somebody who Royals manager Clement knows well from his time working with the Chelsea youth squads.

Walker will most likely act us back-up for Vito Mannone and next season but healthy competition is never a bad thing.

So is Walker a good signing for the Royals?

We discuss...

George Dagless

This is an interesting one.

I don't really see him starting straightaway, to be honest, but he might be able to compete for the number 2 spot.

It's another Reading signing this summer that makes you wonder what their strategy is.

Jay Williams

I have always rated Walker as a solid lower league goalkeeper. He commands his box and is a decent shot stopper.

Stepping up to the Championship will be tricky, though, and you will expect him to just be deputising for Vito Mannone for the time being.

Jay Taylor

It is a good signing in the sense that it brings competition for places at the Madejski.

That was an aspect of Paul Clement’s team that was evidently lacking last season.

It is a signing that won’t get fans excited but it is a necessary addition.

They know each other and it is a fairly low-risk signing, and one that is becoming the norm at Reading.

Chris Gallagher

He's exactly what they needed.

Derby's forwards weren't great and they needed a young, clinical striker to help fire them to promotion.

Marriott fits the bill and could flourish in this attacking Rams team.

Christian Fuller

The new Reading shot-stopper isn’t a signing that fills me with excitement.

He will certainly do a job for the Royals, who had a dismal campaign last season, but it isn’t the sort of player to get the buzz going again at the Madejski Stadium.
