Derby County are in danger of letting the season get away from them, with Phillip Cocu's side down in 15th place in the Championship.

Cocu cannot help but be considering additions to his squad in January, with 24-year-old Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson a target, according to a report in The Star.

So would Dawson be a good addition for the Rams? Is he needed?

“This would be a good signing for Derby as they are struggling a lot in the goalkeeper department this season.

“Phillip Cocu is currently operating with Kelle Roos in goal, as Frank Lampard did last season, however, the Dutch ‘keeper has struggled this season along with the rest of the defence.

“Behind Roos in the pecking order is two players who might not be able the step-up in Ben Hamer and Jonathan Mitchell, with Hamer not getting regular action for a while and Mitchell yet to make the permanent jump from youth football and loans to Derby’s first-team.

“Signing Cameron Dawson would provide Roos with genuine competition and is someone who has proven in his showings for the Owls that he has what it takes to be a regular for a lot of teams in the Championship.”

Ned Holmes

"This is an interesting one.

"Dawson has really impressed me in the brief opportunities given to him at Sheffield Wednesday this season and looks deserving of a starting spot in the Championship.

"He doesn't seem like getting that with the Owls due to Keiren Westwood being at the club but is this really something that should be high on Derby's list of priorities?

"Despite their struggles, Kelle Roos has looked pretty solid this season, so I think they should be looking to strengthen elsewhere first–particularly at centre-back."

"Another strange club to be linked to Dawson really, with Derby having looked pretty comfortable with Kelle Roos as their number one keeper since he broke through last season.

"I can understand why Dawson is linked with a move away from Hillsborough, as he has largely played second fiddle to Kieren Westwood, meaning he has found game time limited under Monk.

"However it would take a lot to beat Roos to the number one spot at Derby, plus they are a team who play with a different style to that of Sheffield Wednesday, with Cocu liking to build attacks out from the back.

"In conclusion I can't see this move happening, as quite frankly Derby do not need another keeper at this present moment and it wouldn't be beneficial for Dawson's development."
