As Aston Villa head into their first match of the Dean Smith era, the manager is planning to sit down with striker Scott Hogan to have a one-on-one chat and see what can be done to get the player, who played under Smith at Brentford, back to his best as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

Despite a host of attacking options at his finger-tips, Smith will be hoping he can get the 26-year-old back to the sort of form that he showed at the Bees, when he scored 14 goals in the first half of the 2016/17 season.

Hogan struggled for game time under Steve Bruce, a cause that was not helped by a series of injuries and even though he has not featured this season, with the arrival of his old boss, there is a chance to kick-start his career.

So if Smith taking Hogan to one side to help revitalise his career a good move?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

A very good move, he was firing on all cylinders under Dean Smith when the pair were at Brentford together.

If the talks work and Scott Hogan feels validated, then the club could have one hell of a striker on their hands.

If he can get back to his potent best, they will have one of the best finishers in the division should his form return.

Gary Hutchinson

Absolutely.

Hogan smashed them in for Smith before, imagine if he could do that for Villa.

They might get a return on a player they forked big money out of.

You’ll probably find Smith doesn’t need to buy lots of new players, just chat to the ones he has.

George Dagless

For sure.

Villa need to start firing with their attacking options potentially up there with the best in the league on form.

Hogan enjoyed his best days at Brentford under Smith so this is a more than good idea.

Jacob Potter

This is an excellent move.

Hogan has been an outcast since signing for Villa from Brentford, but the return of Smith will see him link up with Hogan again.

I truly believe that we could see the Scott Hogan of old return this season, providing he is given enough game time in a side that boasts a considerable amount of depth in it’s ranks.
