Liam Lindsay is a player in serious demand after a hugely impressive season with Barnsley, with Championship side Stoke City reportedly set to sign the 23-year-old.

The Scottish Sun reports that after Italian side Brescia had a £1million bid rejected for the defender, Stoke have now had a bid accepted for the centre-half, in the region of £2million plus add-ons.

The Potters mean business after a disappointing campaign last term, with Nick Powell, Lee Gregory and Adam Davies all believed to be close on moving to the bet365 Stadium.

With West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, Brentford and Middlesbrough believed to be after the 23-year-old's signature, the Potters now look set to win the race for the stalwart.

Here though, FLW writer George Harbey talks about this potential deal...

Firstly, what did you make of Lindsay's season last term?

"I thought he was absolutely brilliant.

"At a relatively young age, he is so mature and so commanding for a centre-half, and he has a big, big future ahead of him.

"He helped Barnsley concede the fewest amount of goals in the division alongside Ethan Pinnock, and their partnership was beneficial to the Tykes going up."

Would Stoke be a good move for him?

"I think that Stoke would be a good move for Lindsay, definitely.

"I expect big things from the Potters this season, as I really rate Nathan Jones as a manager, and once he gets his ship in order, they will be a real force to be reckoned with, in my view.

"Alongside Danny Batth, Stoke could have a fantastic defensive partnership."

£2million the right price?

"This is an absolute steal for Stoke.

"Lindsay was easily one of the best defenders in League One last season, and at 23 years of age, he has plenty of years ahead of him.

"We have seen Portsmouth defender Matt Clarke be linked with a £6million move to Brighton, and I believe that Lindsay had a better season than him."

Are Barnsley making a mistake by letting him go for that price?

"To be honest, I'd say they don't really have a choice.

"He only has one year left on his contract at Oakwell, so they cannot afford to run the risk of letting him leave on a free transfer next season.

"We have seen James Norwood leave Tranmere for nothing, which is scandalous business in my opinion."

How big of a blow would this be for Barnsley?

"Of course, it would be a massive blow for Barnsley.

"He is by far their most important player, which speaks volumes as their squad is full of talented individuals.

"It would be hard to find a young, left-sided centre-half as good as him, and the £2million sale would prove to be tricky in doing so."

Finally, if Stoke seal Lindsay, how big of a statement would this be?

"Stoke are starting to look like the team to watch out for next season.

"If they sign Powell, Gregory and Davies on free transfers and Lindsay for a minimal fee, then that would be tremendous business by the club.

"Lindsay suits them to a tee, and he would be a tremendous signing."
