Sunderland confirmed their eighth signing of the summer on Wednesday night with the arrival of Jerome Sinclair on a season-long loan from Watford.

The striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship but only made four appearances for the struggling Blues.

Sinclair follows Jon McLaughlin, Dylan McGeouch, Glen Loovens, Alim Ozturk, Tom Flanagan, Reece James and Chris Maguire into the Stadium of Light as Jack Ross aims to take Sunderland straight back into the Championship.

The 21-year-old signed for Watford from Liverpool last summer on a free transfer but failed to stake a claim to a first team spot in that time and was shipped out on loan to Birmingham.

With game likely to be hard to come by at Vicarage Road this season, Javi Garcia has decided that another loan spell would be good for the striker.

But will he prove to be a good signing for the Black Cats?

We discuss...

George Dagless

It'll go one of two ways.

He has considerable talent but his career is gradually stalling.

If he can reignite it Sunderland will be laughing. If not, it's hard to see where he goes next.

Jay Williams

Sinclair is so unproven at senior level but has always been highly rated by Liverpool and then by Watford.

A loan move is sensible for his career and he could just be the man to lead Sunderland back to the Championship.

Sinclair needs to use this season to prove that he can make the step up to first-team football and perform so Sunderland could be the party that reaps the short-term benefits of this.

Jay Taylor

Sinclair dropping down two divisions is a sign he is ready to play and do well for a football club who have had the worst fortune in the last two years.

Despite not scoring for Watford in his five Premier League appearances last term, he has some experience in that league.

He will be a quality addition to League One, a league he is probably too good for. Time will tell but on paper it is a phenomenal bit go business for Jack Ross and Sunderland.

Chris Gallagher

This is a tidy signing - A good move for all parties.

Sunderland get a striker who has a lot of ability and the player will start for a big club and get competitive football.

He needs to take this opportunity and under Jack Ross' guidance could become a star in League One.

Christian Fuller

Very strong signing for Sunderland, considering he was getting Premier League appearances only a few months ago – albeit off the bench.

Sunderland need some fresh faces in their squad, and hopefully this is the first of many for the Black Cats.

With the freedom up front to express himself, Sinclair could cause some serious damage in League One this coming season.
