Derby County left-back Max Lowe signed a three-year deal with the Championship club this week and has been loaned to the Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen until January 2019, as confirmed on the Club website.

Lowe has been capped by England at age-grade level and made three outings for the Rams this term, he becomes Aberdeen's ninth summer signing and third defensive addition.

So is this the right move for Lowe? Was this the right decision by Lampard?

We discuss.....

Aberdeen will offer challenges he won’t get at Derby but will also afford regular football.

Those games against Celtic and Rangers are like top of the table Premier League clashes. Two of the biggest clubs in Europe on the calendar eight times a season.

However, the rest of the division is varied, with sides like Hearts maybe Championship standard, but at the bottom perhaps teams are League One quality.

Lowe will at least be exposed to different levels of ability.

George Dagless

It is.

I thought he'd play more for Derby this season but they clearly couldn't see that happening and so it's a good move away.

He's got plenty of potential and I think he'll do well there.

Jay Williams

Although some Derby fans will be disappointed to see him leave, another loan move was perhaps the sensible career choice.

At Aberdeen, he will get the chance to play in some big games and show what he can do in Scotland.

With Scott Malone and Craig Forsyth able to play at left-back, game time might have been harder to come by for Lowe this term.

The 21-year-old still has a bright future and needs to show what he can do with the Dons.

This is a surprise.

Max Lowe had started well for Derby this season but with the arrival of Scott Malone, the youngster’s immediate future could have seen him sat on the bench rather than benefitting from first-team football.

In the grand scheme of things, it is a very good move so he can continue his development and get regular first team football.

It will benefit both Derby and Lowe in the long run.
