Sheffield United are close to finalising a deal to sign Nottingham Forest defender Jack Robinson, with the 26-year-old left-back undergoing the second part of a medical at the Premier League side, according to a report by Football Insider.

Robinson plays predominantly as a left-back but he can also operate as a left-sided centre-back having previously been a trainee at Liverpool and spent time on loan at Blackpool, where he made his breakthrough in the Championship, before joining QPR in 2014.

So would Robinson be a good addition at Bramall Lane and should Forest be prepared to offload him?

“This is a strange one for me.

“I understand that Sheffield United are going to have to be shrewd with their signings but I’d question whether Robinson is ready to step up to the Premier League.

“He’s been an important player for the Reds this season and though he’s lost his place to Ribeiro in recent weeks, you’d imagine Lamouchi would want to keep him in the squad for their promotion push.

“It all comes down to the fee and whether the Reds feel they already have it can get in adequate cover.”

“Whilst there is no doubting Robinson’s ability, Forest may not necessarily miss him when he does join Sheffield United.

“With Yuri Ribeiro performing to a high standard at full-back since his move to the Reds from Benfica, Robinson has been forced to share this particular role this season.

“However, there is no reason why the defender cannot go on to achieve a great deal of success at Bramall Lane with the Blades.

“Given that Chris Wilder has played a key role in developing the talents of United’s players during his time in charge of the club, he will be confident in his ability to get the best out of Robinson."

George Harbey

"I'm not sure that Robinson would be able to cut it in the Premier League at Sheffield United, but there's no way he's turning down a move to the top-flight especially at his age.

"Robinson is an old-fashioned left-back who is much better defensively than he is at going forward, so I don't see how he'd fit in at Bramall Lane given that their wing-backs, George Baldock and Enda Stevens, are practically used as attacking wingers.

"Yuri Ribeiro has been excellent since arriving at Forest, and it's hard to get into the team ahead of him given his form at present - he has set the bar so high at left-back.

"From a Forest perspective, selling a player for a fee of around £1m when he's not really a key player and is out of contract in the summer, is phenomenal business."
