Sunderland are looking to continue the impressive re-building of their squad ahead of the new League One campaign.

Jerome Sinclair has been brought in on a season-long loan from Premier League Watford, a signing that is a big coup for the north-east club.

Following hot on the heels of the 21-year-old striker’s arrival, the Black Cats are set to seal a signing from one of their third-tier rivals, Peterborough United.

The Shield Gazette are reporting Posh captain Jack Baldwin is having a medical at the Stadium of Light ahead of a proposed move.

Sunderland will pay Peterborough a transfer fee of £200,000 for the defender, according to Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 10:43 am, Friday, July 27, 2018).

The fee reported is a bargain for a player who can operate in midfield, although by trade, is a defender.

His versatility will come in handy for the Black Cats next season, having played 43 times for the London Road side, scoring three goals last year.

The 25-year-old knows the division back of his hand and will have the necessary experience Sunderland need in League One.

Is Baldwin a good signing for Sunderland?

We discuss…

Jack Ross has been handed the testing task of reshaping Sunderland’s playing squad, and for me, he’s doing a superb job.

Baldwin will be another strong addition, with the 25-year-old bringing some more quality to the playing squad at the Stadium of Light.

Jay Williams

If the rumoured £200k transfer fee is correct, then this is a snip in today's market.

Baldwin was not quite the same player last season after recovering from a long-term injury, but he is still relatively young so that he can improve again.

At the age of 25, he already has so many senior games under his belt, and he has captained Peterborough at such a young age, showing that he is a natural leader.

Christian Fuller

Despite not playing that much first-team football last season, there is no reason why Jack Baldwin can have an outstanding year for Sunderland.

Having spent a vast majority of his career in League One, he knows the speed, pressure and tenacity that England’s third division beholds, and should fit in nicely into their set up.

George Dagless

It's another good looking Sunderland deal.

Baldwin is a good player at this level, and it is impressive that Sunderland have managed to strike a deal.

He'll surely prove a shrewd signing.
