Leeds United had been one of the clubs linked with a move for international striker Alvaro Negredo, however it now appears that he's looking set for a switch to Rayo Vallecano, as reported by Birmingham Live.

Aston Villa were also in the running to sign the ex-Premier League player, however a move doesn't look like materialising.

Would Negredo have been a useful addition to Leeds or has it been a lucky escape for Bielsa and his team?

Alvaro Negredo wouldn’t fit the mould of this current Leeds side.

He isn’t the most mobile forward and the way Marcelo Bielsa wants his side to press and defend from the front, he would have been the only one not doing it.

It would have been a style over substance signing and United need players that will want to be involved in the high-press tactic Bielsa employs.

Move onto another player and leave this man of yesteryear behind.

Gary Hutchinson

This was never a fit, it should never even have been suggested.

I wonder if Leeds were ever interested, or if this was media hype around a big name set to shift a few papers or entice a few clicks.

I can’t see how anyone looking at the Leeds team could have deduced they needed a 32-year old who flopped in England before, not only that but to also supplement his huge wages.

It was a non-starter from the off.

This is a shame for Leeds.

I feel Bielsa would have brought the best out of the Spanish striker and feel he could have spearheaded Leeds' promotion push.

He would have offered a different option to Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford, and would have been a useful addition to the Whites team.

George Dagless

Yes.

It was a fanciful story to say the least anyway but, even so, it's probably good that it's not happening.

Make no mistake, he's been a class forward at times but he's not got the playing style that Bielsa wants and it would surely be too big a risk.
