A rollercoaster week at Aston Villa Football Club has taken yet another turn, with former Manchester United manager Rui Faria set to become the club's new manager.

The 43-year old has been assistant manager to United boss Jose Mourinho for over fourteen years, at clubs such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter Milan.

If he is to be appointed at Villa Park, then it would be Faria’s first shot at management, with former Villa captain John Terry also set to return to the club as Faria's assistant, having known each other for their time at Stamford Bridge.

In light of this recent news, we at FLW discuss whether Faria would be a good appointment for Villa.

George Harbey

I'm really not sure about this one.

Faria has been assistant to one of the best managers in the world for over a decade, and will have learnt many things from Mourinho as he looks to embark on a new chapter.

But I can't help but feel that to get Villa out of the rut they currently find themselves in, a manager like Brendan Rodgers would be absolutely perfect instead.

Sam Rourke

This is a serious gamble - Faria only has experience as a number two and it's a huge gig for your first ever manager's role.

Terry alongside him will be crucial, and with them both at the helm, it could work.

But he's got to hit the ground running, and if he doesn't, he could feel the wrath of the Villa Park faithful.

George Dagless

It's a gamble.

Faria has worked for some of the biggest clubs in the game and will bring great contacts and a winning mentality if he is confirmed.

However, he is also a novice really as the leading man and so he'll still quickly have to prove himself.

Jacob Potter

The potential appointment of Faria has definitely come as a shock to me but after being in Jose Mourinho’s shadow for a considerable amount of time, Villa fans have a reason to be excited about the potential arrival.

He would be able to call upon his previous contacts at Manchester United and Chelsea which could come in handy for Villa.

It will go one of two ways for Faria if he joins! Either he will be a great success in his first managerial role or he will flop at Villa Park and be dismissed by the end of the season!
