Aston Villa are close to securing an agreement to sign Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to Teamtalk.

The 21-year-old has rejected a new deal at Hillsborough and now looks set to complete a switch to Villa Park.

Is this a good signing for Steve Bruce's Villa?

We discuss.....

George Dagless

It's a risk.

Make no mistake he's got the potential to be a good player and maybe even in the Premier League but, and it's a big but, he's hardly played.

Yes, he's impressed in his performances for Wednesday and he's a midfielder I like but he's hardly had any game time really so it would still be a risk for Villa.

Jay Williams

In his few first-team games, Clare has shown signs that he could develop into a top class player. He looks comfortable on the ball and is able to hit a range of passes.

While there is still a lot to learn and many improvements to be made, Clare is a terrific prudent signing for Aston Villa - especially for a cut-price compensation fee.

Ben Barkworth

Sean Clare impressed this season with Sheffield Wednesday, so getting him as a free agent would be a bargain for Villa.

However, he may struggle to break into their team, especially if they achieve promotion, so a loan spell might be a good move for him next season.

Chris Gallagher

A very good signing for Villa.

Steve Bruce was obviously impressed with the midfielder after he scored against his side at Hillsborough and with how he plays.

Clare has real energy, quality on the ball and loves to get forward. He has great potential and Villa will be getting him at a cut-price so this is a really smart signing.
