Newcastle United are weighing up a swoop for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, who becomes a free-agent in the summer - reports the Daily Mail.

Would the 27-year-old be a good signing for the Magpies? Is he good enough for the Premier League?

We discuss...

Ben Barkworth

Hernandez is a talented striker who really should be playing in the Premier League, but bad luck and other issues have stopped that.

Newcastle need a prolific striker willing to work within a rigid framework and the Uruguayan can provide that.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has shown that he is better suited to playing elsewhere, so Hernandez can take his place in the team.

Jay Williams

With Mike Ashley refusing to give Newcastle much money for signings, Abel Hernandez on a free could be a good move for the Magpies.

It looks like Hull will struggle to keep the Uruguay international at the club.

Hernandez is prolific at Championship level and just needs to transfer that form into the top flight - perhaps a move away from Hull would help him score goals in the Premier League.

Chris Gallagher

On a free it’s great business.

The way he has come back from his Achilles injury is extraordinary and he is too good for the Championship as his record shows.

That doesn’t mean he will be great in the top-flight but on a free it’s a no-brainer.

Alfie Burns

Hernandez is a player that I can’t quite work out.

I’m unsure if he is good enough to be prolific in the top-flight, but when fit, he is one of the best around in the Championship.

Personally, I think Newcastle would be taking a risk, but on a free, I’m sure they’re willing to do that.

Gary Hutchinson

So they're going to let Aleksandar Mitrovic go, a proven scorer, and bring in Abel Hernandez who isn't?

Wow.

Whether Hernandez is a good signing or not is completely irrelevant when you consider they've got the Serbian in their ranks and are willing to let him go.

George Dagless

Without a doubt - This is a no brainer for Mike Ashley.

Hernandez is a top flight level striker in many ways and if Rafa can get the best out of him they'd have a real player on their hands.

The Magpies need a striker that can play in the number 9 role and the Uruguayan ticks the right boxes.
