Reading manager Jose Gomes is looking to further add to his squad, with the Royals submitting a loan offer to Chelsea as they attempt to re-sign defender Matt Miazga, who spent the second half of last season on-loan at the Royals, according to journalist Courtney Friday on Twitter.

USA international Miazga has been at Stamford Bridge since January 2016 making a couple of appearances for the Blues and prior to Reading, spending loan spells at both Vitesse and Nantes.

So is it a smart move by the Royals to try and sign Miazga on loan again?

We discuss

Kealan Hughes

"This is a move that makes a lot of sense. Miazga was a brilliant addition for The Royals in the last transfer window, and he went on to appear in every minute Reading played after he signed.

"He knows the club and crucially he knows the defence he would be playing in. He built a brilliant partnership with Liam Moore and that provided the backbone to Reading's survival.

"With those two at the back Reading shouldn't concede many and if they have a solid foundation they could go on to have a very positive season.

"Miazga proved he is capable of handling whatever the Championship has to throw at him, and like many modern-day defenders he is as good with the ball at his feet as he is at challenging strikers for high balls, so this is a great move by Jose Manuel Gomes."

Louie Chandler

"It has to be worth a try doesn't it?

"Miazga was excellent during the second half of last season for the Royals so if anything I am surprised it has taken them this long to re-submit an offer.

"Morrison's arrival was a good one and with himself and Liam Moore on board Jose Gomes has the makings of a very impressive defensive unit.

"Adding Miazga to that will take it to another level, however. He would comfortably be the best out of those options on the ball and would open the door to a more varied style of play for Gomes."

Toby Wilding

"I think this would be a good move from Reading.

"Miazga was a solid addition to Reading's defence while on loan there in the second half of last season, and became a popular addition with the Royals fanbase, so you imagine this would be a popular move all round the Madejski Stadium should it happen.

"Chelsea boss Frank Lampard knows first hand the benefits to all parties of sending players out on loan from his time at Derby last season, and with Miazga seemingly out of picture when it comes to getting playing time at Chelsea, so you imagine the Blues and too will be happy to let him get first-team experience elsewhere.

"That is likely to suit Miazga too, as it gives him the chance to make an impression at a more senior level, and Reading may well be a decent choice for him, since it is a club he already knows, where he is confident that he will be given that regular playing time."
