Nathan Jones is looking to link up with fellow Welshman Sam Vokes with a move for the Burnley striker in motion.

The Daily Mail is reporting that the Championship club have made an offer of £9million for the 29-year-old, who may be allowed to leave Turf Moor this month.

Vokes was an unused substitute in the 5-0 FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Manchester City last weekend, adding to the speculation that he is set to leave the club.

The 29-year-old has managed ten starts and ten sub appearances for the Premier League club this term, as well as featuring in all six of their Europa League cup matches.

Jones is looking to add to his side after an indifferent start as the Potters’ manager, losing three of his four games in charge so far.

And the three-goal striker this year is a player Jones admires as he looks set to take it down to the wire to get a deal over the line.

With that said we asked our group of FLW writers if they felt Stoke would be getting value for money if they were to sign the Wales international.

Here’s what they had to say on the matter.

Gary Hutchinson

“No, they wouldn’t, this is a huge gamble.

“I’ve not seen anything I like from Vokes in a couple of years.

“If there’s no better out there I might clean my boots and get an agent.”

Jacob Potter

“It's a hefty fee to be paying.

“For any Championship club, £9m is a high price to be paying, but he would be a real coup at this level.

“If he can score goals from the off, it's a gamble worth taking.

“He would be exactly what Stoke need to help fire them up the table.”

Chris Gallagher

“It's probably the going rate nowadays.

“It does seem like a lot, but Vokes is a proven Championship player and will get goals at that level.

“As well as that, he offers a lot to the team regarding his physicality and size so he would be a decent signing for £9m.”
