Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom is keen on a swoop for Middlesbrough striker Ashley Fletcher, according to Gazette Live.

The 22-year-old has spent most of this season on loan at Sunderland, where he failed to make an impact to help keep the Black Cats in the Championship.

Would the former West Ham forward be a wise signing for Leeds? Or should they avoid?

We discuss....

George Dagless

It's another risk.

He's a player who I think will do a good job for the right club but Leeds can't afford to wait for him to produce the goods.

Certainly, I'd expect the club to sign other forwards alongside him.

Alfie Burns

Fletcher’s goalscoring record doesn’t look impressive at all, but what is worth considering is that Heckingbottom got the best out of the 22-year-old at Barnsley.

If Heckingbottom could do that again, Fletcher could be a good fit at Leeds.

However, a player like McBurnie would be a better option, for me.

Gary Hutchinson

I'm not sure about this I'm afraid. Fletcher hasn't done it in the Championship and the pressure at Elland Road is likely to be as intense as he's had at Sunderland.

That said, if he's good enough maybe he needs the right environment and there's nothing to say Leeds can't provide it.

This is a calculated risk.

Chris Gallagher

Yes, as he's a player that Heckingbottom knows well.

There's no doubt he has been very poor at Sunderland but the chance to work with his former boss could be exactly what he needs.

At his best, Fletcher is a quick striker with good movement so would benefit Leeds. It's a risk given recent performances but one that's worth taking.
