Reading FC recently completed the signing of midfielder, Charlie Adam who left Stoke at the end of last year's league campaign.

Football League World's Reading fan pundit, Jamie Gorman issued his thoughts on Adam's arrival, and claims that it's a signing that has divided the fan-base.

"This has really split the fan-base. Many claiming he’s past it, and others suggesting he’ll be a good option off the bench and as cover.

"The pros are that he’s a good distributor of the ball, and can dictate the pace of the game in the latter stages. He's also very handy with set-pieces. The cons, his age, fitness or lack of, and a questionable attitude if you listen to some Stoke supporters."

Gorman went on to admit that he didn't think that the midfield position was an area that needed to be added to this summer, and doesn't expect Adam to be a regular starter in Jose Gomes' side.

"I don’t believe he would fill any position that needs strengthening. He would be cover at best and possibly handy to run down the final twenty minutes and control the pace of the game."

One Reading youngster that has stood out during their pre-season preparations is Jordan Holsgrove, who will be keen to force his way through to the first-team in the 2019/2020 league campaign.

There will be doubts as to whether Adams' arrival at the Madejski Stadium will stall Holsgrove's development, but Gorman felt that the young midfielder will be given an opportunity to feature in a competitive fixture for the Royals.

"Jordan in particular has had a very good pre-season. He will get game time this season, and certainly won’t miss out just because Charlie Adam has come in.

"Jose Gomes has shown he will reward youth if they work hard enough, and Jordan is fast emerging as another bright young talent to break through from the ever impressive academy."

The Reading fan pundit went on to reveal that he would rather have seen the money on Adams' wages spent elsewhere, but admitted that they are limited with the options out there in the free agent market.

"Personally yes, I would (have preferred to see the money spent elsewhere), but the question is on who? We are largely looking at free transfers and loan signings. Ovie Ejaria is the main midfield target on loan from Liverpool. Adam would be a very disappointing 'after thought'."
