Birmingham City are rock-bottom of the Sky Bet Championship at the halfway stage of the season, with Steve Cotterill’s men looking ever-more likely to suffer the indignity of relegation to League One this season.

Having spent big under Harry Redknapp in the summer, the former Nottingham Forest boss was brought in to turn around a poor start to the season under the experienced manager, who was removed from his position after just a handful of games at the helm.

The change in manager has done little to stem the tide however, and today Birmingham City’s owners released a dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ statement, insisting they are fully behind the 53-year-old.

Birmingham travel to fellow strugglers Sunderland this afternoon, with victory for the hosts set to put them five points clear of Cotterill’s men.

Chris Coleman’s side won their first home game in a year with victory over Fulham last week, and the former Wales boss will look to make it back-to-back wins over the beleaguered Blues.
