Following their relegation to League One after just a single season in the second tier of English football for the first time in their short history, MK Dons struggled to reacclimatise to the demands of League One football.

The controversial club finished 12th in what was a disappointing year for the Buckinghamshire side, who at times feared a second successive relegations following a string of bad performances.

Manager Robbie Neilson will look to turn his side’s fortunes around this summer with the injection of some quality additions to his squad, and the Scotsman would do well to start with the signing of out of contract Ipswich Town striker Leon Best.

The 30-year-old spent just a single season in Suffolk, but mustered only 11 appearances across the course of the Tractor Boys campaign.

Best is something of a journeyman having played for no less than 12 clubs during his 13 year professional career, and a move to League One could be the latest switch the Irishman makes.

At times Best looked like establishing himself as a prolific striker, before a series of devastating injuries crippled the player’s career.

Best fought hard to return from serious knee problems, and will look to the 2017/18 campaign as perhaps his last opportunity to lay down a marker.

Dropping into League One with Milton Keynes could be the perfect move for the player, who when in form, would undoubtedly be deadly in the division.

Best has always had an eye for goal, and if Neilson can keep the player fit and raring to go, then he could have a real gem on his hands.
