It was today revealed that Leeds United had the fifth happiest set of fans in the Championship, according to research by FootballTips, via the Yorkshire Evening Post.

3,600 fans were evenly sourced from the 24 teams and one of the questions asked was 'would you say you are currently happy with the team you support?'

Of the 150 Leeds fans surveyed 89% of them claimed to be happy with the club as things stood.

Marcelo Bielsa's side currently sit at the top of the Championship table with 15 points from a possible 21 and remain the only unbeaten side in the division.

The only fans happier with their sides than Leeds' were Rotherham United, who had the highest percentage of happy fans with 94%, followed by Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United.

Norwich City were the most unhappy fans in the division with only 9% of respondents currently happy with things at Carrow Road, followed by West Brom, Reading, Ipswich Town and Preston.

A spokesperson for Footballtips.com said the aim of the study was to see if there was a correlation between season ticket prices and happiness of fans.

"We were surprised to see that Norwich did not fare well, with them having the most expensive season ticket on offer, the joint most expensive pie, as well as the least self-confessed ‘happy’ fans," the spokesperson, told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"Although cost definitely seems to hold some weight when it comes to fan happiness, it would seem that poor performance, past relegation and management problems are the true issues.”

The verdict

There are some very surprising results in this list, not least that Leeds fans are only fifth given the success of the current season.

Swansea City are far higher than I would have expected as well given the poor transfer window they have had.

But I imagine Leeds fans will climb that table even more if their club are able to maintain the form shown over the first seven matches of the season.
