Bristol Rovers have started preparing for the new season, as they have recruited two new goalkeepers in Sam Slocombe and Adam Smith, who join from Blackpool and Northampton Town respectively.

With manager Darell Clarke signing a new five-year contract in June, and the 'Gas' looking to build a new stadium on a site in Chiswick, South Gloucestershire, everything seems to be heading in the right direction for the club.

Last season the club finished in 10th place in League One on 66 points, which was just 9 points short of the final play-off place occupied by Millwall.

Considering it had been their first season back in the division after back-to-back promotions from non-league, this was seen as a huge success for the club.

This summer, Clarke will be looking to bolster his squad to give the 'Gas' every opportunity of going one step further next season and making the play-offs.

With that in mind the club should look to bring former striker Rickie Lambert back to the Memorial Stadium this summer to help fire them to the League One play-offs.

The striker had a previous spell at the Memorial Stadium between 2006 and 2009, where he scored 51 goals for the club, and helped the club gain promotion to League One.

After leaving the Memorial Stadium, Lambert, went on to play for Southampton, his boyhood club Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and most recently Cardiff City.

Whilst at Southampton the striker found the back of the net on 106 occasions but since leaving St Mary's, he has struggled for goals.

A move back to somewhere familiar and taking a drop down a division could really Lambert find his form again in front of goal.
