Brentford confirmed their third signing of the summer with the acquisition of midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo from FC Twente, and there is a great excitement surrounding the new man at Griffin Park.

South African international Mokotjo captained FC Twente in the Dutch top flight last season, helping the former champions to a respectable 7th place finish.

Twente had previously broken their transfer record to bring in the player from fellow Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle, but encountering financial difficulties in recent years, they have been forced the club to sell their prize assets for modest fees.

Bringing Mokotjo to Brentford is a coup considering the role the player had at his former club, and his importance to a side in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Mokotjo is a dominating midfielder with a stern reputation for breaking up play and patrolling the middle of the park, and his ability to boss the middle will allow for Brentford’s more creative outlets to work further up the pitch.

Sitting alongside the likes of Ryan Woods or Nico Yennaris, Mokotjo will provide the perfect platform from which the Bees can launch the devastating counter attacks that they have become renowned for, and the pace and killer instincts of forwards Jota, Sergi Canos and Lasse Vibe will be complemented by the attributes of the South African.

The Bees finished comfortably in mid table last season, and manager Dean Smith will feel with the additions he is making this summer, his side will be serious contenders for a place in the top six.

Bringing the captain of a top Dutch side to west London has laid down a marker, with many in Holland and his home nation considering the player to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the country.

There is a strong belief back in South Africa that Mokotjo will establish himself as one of the stars of the Championship, and finally force himself into the first team set up of the national team on a more consistent basis.

With Mokotjo keen to impress national team bosses and his new gaffer, Brentford have a real gem on their hands, and are quietly assembling one of the strongest squads in the division.
