Young Everton youngster Kieran Dowell has an extremely bright future in the game, and playing such an important role in England U20’s famous World Cup win this summer has only served to add to the hype surrounding the 19-year-old at Goodison Park.

In January, the playmaker expressed an interest in testing himself in the Football League, but Everton stressed that he would only be allowed to leave to a club that met their specific loan requirements.

Dowell needs consistent game time, and the Toffees do not want to see their youngster rot on the bench of a Championship side, when he could thrive and develop under their own tutelage in the under-23 set up.

Everton will receive offers for the player this summer, and Toffees scouts will thoroughly analyse each possible destination to find the right home for their 5 ft 9 in prospect.

One club who Everton have dealt with in the past is Barnsley, who are in the market for a new wide man this summer following the departure of Marley Watkins to Norwich.

Barnsley and Everton struck a deal for John Stones several years ago, and if the Tykes can promise to adhere to Everton’s strict loan conditions, then a deal for Dowell could be the in pipeline.

Dowell was extremely impressive in the World Cup, and scored the winner in a crucial 1-0 win over hosts South Korea in the group stages which secured their place in the knockout stages.

Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom is a young manager with strong ambition for his side ahead of the new season, and acquiring a player of Dowell’s ability potential will be a welcome addition to his Oakwell masterplan.

Dowell could find himself in the Championship next season, and a successful year would put him firmly in the plans of Ronald Koeman in the coming years at Everton.
