Premier League side Chelsea are reportedly considering giving young defender Reece James a place in the first-team next season, after a hugely impressive season on loan with Wigan Athletic.

The 19-year old has caught the eye on loan with the Latics this season, and has been named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year as a result of his impressive performances for Paul Cook's men.

The Blues, who were hit with a two-window transfer ban last month, may be forced to utilise their young players next season rather than loan them out, with James being considered for a place in Maurizio Sarri's plans.

Here, we discuss this development coming out of Stamford Bridge...

George Harbey

"This doesn't surprise me one bit.

"James has lit up the Championship this season after a string of eye-catching displays for Wigan.

"He has a massive future ahead of him and needs regular game-time."

Jay Taylor

"They might not have a choice considering they are under an embargo next season.

"No players will arrive so youngsters will surely get their chance in the first team.

"James has been immense at Wigan this year and deserves his chance int he first team at Stamford Bridge."

Toby Wilding

"It would be good to see one of Chelsea's army of loanees get a chance in the first team at the Bridge, and there would be few better than Reece James.

"The right back has been a shining light on loan at Wigan this season, and a place in Chelsea's first team would be fair recognition of his performances this season, as well as potentially giving hope to those vast numbers of Chelsea exiles across the country and beyond."

Jacob Potter

"The wrong call.

"Chelsea have hardly given any of the club’s young players a chance in the starting XI this season and James would be no different.

"He would be better off heading out on loan again."
