Sunderland manager Jack Ross could have a battle on his hands as Arsenal and Manchester United go head-to-head to sign 15-year-old Black Cats midfielder Logan Pye, according to a report in The Sun.

The youngster will be eligible for a move in the January transfer window with both of the Premier League giants poised to make a move for the England youth international.

So would Pye be a good signing for the Gunners?

We discuss...

Chris Gallagher

"He would be a very good signing.

"All the elite clubs in the country are looking to sign the most talented youngsters around and Pye clearly falls into that category.

"Given his age, it's too soon to say he will become a top player but he clearly has a lot of potential and Arsenal will feel that they can help him fulfil that.

"From his perspective, even though first-team opportunities will be hard to come by in the years to come, the chance to move to a club like Arsenal is going to appeal a lot."

George Brooks

"Logan Pye is a very talented young player and he could be a decent signing for Arsenal.

"He can play at full-back or centre-back, so his versatility makes him a very useful option for any manager to have in their team and a top coach like Unai Emery should be able to get the best out of him.

"With that said, I'm not sure a move to Arsenal would be the best option for his career. Pye is a talented footballer, but he doesn't have a lot of experience, so it would be very difficult for him to force his way into the first team the Emirates Stadium.

"He'd probably be better of staying at Sunderland and trying to force his way into the first team at the Stadium of Light, where Jack Ross has shown that he's prepared to give young players a chance."

Josh Cole

“This could turn out to be a shrewd move for Arsenal if they can seal a deal for Pye.

“An exceptionally talented player, the 15-year-old has already lined up on four occasions for Sunderland’s under-18 side this season and will be aiming to move through the ranks at the Stadium of Light over the coming months.

“Already an England Under-16 international, Pye clearly has bags of potential and thus could become a quality operator under the guidance of the right manager.

“Whilst the full-back would unquestionably be a long-term investment by Arsenal due to the presence of Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney, it may be worth Unai Emery taking a punt on him in the January transfer window.”
