‘This could be worth the gamble’ – Norwich City eyeing 14-goal striker move: Opinion

Norwich City’s striker search ahead of their return to the Premier League appears to have taken another step forward, with the club now interested in Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice.

The 20-year-old has scored 14 goals in 34 league appearance for Lorient this season, helping them to sixth place in the French top flight, outside the play-offs only on goal difference, going into the final round of matches on Friday night.

According to France Football, Claude-Maurice is now a target for Norwich as they look for alternatives to Teemu Pukki for their return to the top flight in August, while German side Eintracht Frankfurt and French high flyers Lille are also interested in the attacker.

With two years left on his Lorient contract, and a reported £8.5million price tag, would Claude-Maurice be a good signing for Norwich?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their thoughts….

George Harbey

“Claude-Maurice certainly looks like a real talent on paper, and he has the potential to become a very good signing for Norwich.

“He has scored plenty of goals in Ligue 2, and there is no reason as to why he can’t translate his form across to the Premier League next year.

“Norwich definitely need another striker to rival Teemu Pukki, with Jordan Rhodes returning to Sheffield Wednesday.”

Toby Wilding

“This may be a difficult signing to pull off given his price tag and the strength of the interest from elsewhere.

“If they were therefore to pull this off however, that could give them a big confidence boost off the pitch, while Claude-Maurice’s contributions on it could be just as important to The Canaries hopes of staying in the top flight.”

Louie Chandler

“If Norwich are targeting him, then he is probably a good signing.

“The Canaries’ recruitment has been nothing short of excellent in recent seasons and it would be naive of them to think they wouldn’t have to strengthen ahead of their Prem return.

“The 20-year-old has an excellent record in the French second tier, so this could be worth the gamble.”
