Brentford manager Thomas Frank is looking to hijack the efforts of Reading manager Jose Gomes to land Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria, with the Bees looking to sign the 21-year-old on a permanent deal, as reported in the Liverpool Echo.
Liverpool do not want another loan-move for the England U21 international and so Brentford look to be in pole position to land the player, who spent last season on-loan at Rangers and then Reading.
So would Ejaria be a good signing for Brentford?
We discuss........
George Dagless
"I'm not sure.
"I think Ejaria has the make-up to be a decent midfielder but so far he's not really shown it enough.
"It seems as though he's not at the level Liverpool want and spells at Rangers and Reading in recent times were okay but not spectacular.
"Brentford are always going to be confident that they can sign a player and get him to work in their system and Ejaria does have quality but whether they can help him release that really is up for debate."
Gary Hutchinson
“His list of former clubs is impressive and if you come up through the ranks at Liverpool you’re going to have that little bit of quality about you. This is a superb signing.
“Liverpool players have proven themselves when going out on loan. Harry Wilson, Herbie Kane and Sheyi Ojo all impressed in spells outside the top flight. Ejaria can do the same.
“He’s already played football to a good level and he’s technically very good; that will suit the Brentford method.
“This could be the move that makes him. There is always one move where a player and club just ‘click’ and I suspect with his attributes and Brentford’s method, this could be the move for him.”
George Brooks
"I think this would be a very good signing for Brentford.
"Ejaria is obviously a very talented footballer, he wouldn't be at Liverpool unless he had the potential to be a top player.
"He probably isn't going to get a proper chance at Anfield next season though, so perhaps now might be the right time for him to leave the club to pursue a new challenge.
"The midfielder was a key player for Reading in the Championship last season and without him the Royals would have been in big trouble.
"I think he's more than capable of becoming a top player in the Championship and Brentford could be a good move for him.
"Ejaria has got very good passing ability, which means that he should suit Thomas Frank's possession-based style of football.
"On top of that, he could be an ideal replacement for Romaine Sawyers, who continues to be linked with a move away from the Bees this summer."
