Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi is looking to add some fire-power to his front-line, with a move for Burnley striker Matej Vydra being considered according to a report on BristolLive, with the 27-year-old struggling for game-time at Turf Moor.

Forest though cannot expect things all their own way with Bristol City and West Brom both considering a late move for the Czech international, who Lamouchi will hope could provide competition to first-choice frontman Lewis Grabban.

So would Vydra be a good addition at the City Ground, is he actually needed and would he get into their current starting XI?

We discuss.........

Phil Spencer

“This could be some signing.

“Sabri Lamouchi has made no secret of his desire to bring in a striker this month and Matej Vydra would certainly fit the bill.

“The 27-year-old is one of the most prolific second-tier strikers that we’ve seen in recent years and so any move to bring him back would undoubtedly be a good move.

“Vydra is struggling for gametime with Burnley which means that they’re unlikely to stand in his way.

“The only obstacle would be the finances behind the move, but given his placing way down the pecking order at Turf Moor it’s likely that a deal could be struck.

“The Burnley man would be an ideal fit into Nottingham Forest’s system and if a deal can be done it will go down as one of the signings of the season.”

“I’m not sure they need another striker of his quality in their squad this month.

“Sabri Lamouchi already has Lewis Grabban available to him, and I don’t think Vydra would want to play ‘second fiddle’ to Grabban at the City Ground.

“Vydra has proven that he is a goalscorer in the Championship , having scored 22 goals for Derby County in the 2017/18 season, and he is far too good of an option to have sitting on the substitutes bench.

“I think Forest do need a striker before the transfer window closes this month, but I think there are safer, and cheaper options out there for the Reds as we head towards Deadline Day.

“Signing a striker to challenge Lewis Grabban for his starting spot would be the missing piece in their promotion jigsaw this season I think.”

Luke Phelps

"Matej Vydra is an odd one - he's been the Championship's best player on his day, has scored a bunch of goals for different teams in the division, but has never been able to make it in the top-flight. Some players just can't for some reason. The Championship is definitely where Vydra is at, and he's due for a return.

"Several clubs are lining-up to take him on-loan for the remainder of the season at least, and Forest could be the ideal place for the Czech. A promotion chasing team and a player with promotion experience, this could be the chance that Vydra has been waiting for to reignite his career - he's still only 27, and could yet have a good Premier League run.

"Numbers are always needed going into the business end of the campaign and for a team in the position that Forest are in, a player of Vydra's caliber would be a huge plus. Forest have a lot of good technical players like Vydra, but those names will tire as we near the season's conclusion, and Vydra would get his fair share of game-time.

"He might not get in the starting XI every week but he'll be give his opportunity to showcase his talent, and if he can be half the player that he was for the likes of Derby and Watford then he'd be one of the first names on Lamouchi's team-sheet. Vydra is hot property right now, and Forest need to move fast if they want to bring him to the City Ground."
