Celtic remain interested in Huddersfield's Mathias Jorgensen as their search for a defender continues, report the Daily Record.

Jorgensen had been a key part of the Huddersfield defence for the past two years but after the arrival of Jan Siewart he saw his opportunities become more limited.

The 29-year-old has stated that he wants out of his 'boring situation' at Huddersfield, and with Celtic not making progress with any of their other targets he could be playing for the Scottish Giants next season.

There is a big gap to fill in the Celtic defence after the departure of Dedryck Boyata and if Celtic are going to fight off a challenge from Rangers for the title they need experience, and a defender who can lead from example.

Jorgensen could be that man, his partnership with Christopher Schindler was a big reason Huddersfield survived their first year in the Premier League, and with the Scottish top-tier a step below in the level of quality Jorgensen should be able to show his class.

Here's what our writers say on Jorgensen's possible move to Celtic.

Jacob Potter

"It's the sort of signing which could pay off, providing he can adjust to the demands of playing in Europe with Celtic.

"Jorgensen has experience of playing in the Premier League, and I think he's got the attributes to succeed with the Bhoys.

"He's strong in the air, and could thrive at Celtic, providing he is given first-team assurances if he was to sign for them.

"He's likely to be available at a relatively cheaper fee as well after Huddersfield were relegated, so it's a deal that would be a smart bit of business by Lennon's side."

Tommy Joyce

"Jorgensen will be a decent signing for Celtic as Huddersfield look to get rid of high wage earners from their squad.

"With the signing of Elphick, they already have a good Championship centre-back in place and perhaps they are trying to cash in while they can on him.

"The Danish defender played 24 games last season and while his standards might not have sufficed the Premier League, you would think they would be good enough for Celtic.

"Jorgensen would start for Celtic and could be an important part of their squad going forward."

Alfie Burns

"Jorgensen would be a good addition for Celtic this summer, given the experience he has of playing in English football's top-tier.

"The gulf in class is something that we know all about, but stepping up to Scotland from a club like Huddersfield shouldn't be too much of a problem for the defender.

"Yes, Huddersfield weren't great in the Premier League last season, but Jorgensen showed enough to suggest he can adapt and be a success in Britain.

"As mentioned, the standard in Scotland isn't as intense as England, so there's plenty to suggest this could be a success."
