Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert is maintaining his side's push for an immediate return to the Championship with the Tractor Boys second in the League One table.

Lambert though may find his settled squad disrupted, with QPR watching defender Luke Woolfenden, according to a report on TWTD, a player who is having an impressive season at Portman Road.

So would Woolfenden be a good signing by QPR? Is the 21-year-old centre-back a player the R's need?

We discuss.........

Kris Smith

“This could be a solid signing for QPR who are lacking strength in depth in defence and are struggling to keep out goals this season, despite their strong attack.

“QPR are currently sat in 16th place having conceded the third-most goals in the Championship and need to tighten up if they are serious about pushing for the top six this season.

“Woolfenden has been a regular part of the Ipswich side that are looking to bounce back from Championship relegation by getting promoted from League One this season.

“QPR’s priority in the transfer market should be strengthening their defence to give their attack a platform to win more games, so signing Woolfenden could be a smart signing at just 21-years-old.”

Ben Lang

"Woolfenden definitely ranks among Ipswich's best performers this campaign, so it is easy to see why QPR have an eye on the defender given their woes at the back so far this term.

"Mark Warburton's side are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, so they need some proven defensive reinforcement, and Woolfenden would be a good addition given his evident quality in addition to his potential to develop further.

"He has broken into the Ipswich first team following loan stints elsewhere, and this has enabled him to develop into a calm and composed defender who is forming a big part of Ipswich's promotion push.

"He would definitely be a good addition for the West London side, but Warburton may also want to line up another more experienced defensive recruit if he wants to have a good balance at the back heading into the second half of the season."

Dean Cooke

"Woolfenden has been very impressive for Ipswich this season, and at such a young age he is the perfect player for a side in the Championship to buy when looking for the future.

"For the R's this would definitely be a good signing considering the defensive problems that they've faced so far this season.

"No clean sheet all season means Mark Warburton must be desperate to freshen up his defensive backline as it clearly isn't good enough at this moment in time.

"Woolfenden has the potential to go on and be a very good defender, but he must continue his development, and at QPR he could do that."
