In-demand Swansea City winger Daniel James has been told to wait until the end of the month before deciding his future by Leeds director of football Victor Orta.

The Whites thought they had secured a deal for the Wales international back in January, but it fell through at the last minute.

After that, the speedy wide man had an outstanding end to the season, with Manchester United now among the clubs believed to be interested in striking a deal this summer.

However, Football Insider claim that Orta has asked the 21-year-old to wait to see if Leeds are promoted before making a decision.

Marcelo Bielsa's side are expected to reach the play-off final which is played on May 27 and they would clearly reignite their interest in James if they do return to the top flight.

Here our writers share their thoughts on the development...

Ben Lang

"I do think this would be a decent move from James.

"Leeds are far more likely to be able to guarantee first-team football for James next season, while there is a risk of his career stagnating at United if he doesn't get game time.

"Leeds are clearly desperate to land James after their attempts in January. It will not be easy call for James to make if Leeds win promotion."

Toby Wilding

"It's a bold move but it makes sense for Orta to try something like this.

"Promotion is a must if Leeds are to get James given his performances and the growing interest in the winger, but if they do reach the Premier League he is more likely to play at Elland Road than Old Trafford so that could be a key factor.

"It remains to be seen what he will do though."

George Brooks

"James has been one of the most exciting players in the Championship this season and would be a great signing for Leeds, regardless of what division the club are in next season.

"He has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs though, so perhaps Leeds' best chance of signing the player is if they win promotion to the top flight, so this could be a smart move by Orta.

"James came close to joining Leeds on deadline in January, so perhaps he could still be tempted by a move to Elland Road, where he would probably be given more of a chance in the first-team than at Manchester United."
