Middlesbrough are said to be one of two clubs in talks with representatives of Sunderland's Josh Maja over a possible transfer this month according to the Sunderland Echo.

Boro face stiff competition to sign Maja this month, with West Ham also in talks over a potential deal for the in-from striker in the near future.

It will come as no surprise to see Maja attracting interest, as he been in excellent form for Jack Ross' side this season, and already has 16 goals to his name in all competitions.

At the age of 20, there will be some doubts about whether he can cut it at a higher level, but Sunderland are likely to be desperate to hold onto their star man.

His goals have kept Sunderland in the promotion hunt this season, and Jack Ross will surely be doing everything he can to keep Maja at the club for the remainder of the season - at the very least.

But would Maja be a good signing for Middlesbrough?

We discuss...

Chris Gallagher:

"This would be a bad move for the player.

"Tony Pulis already has Assombalonga who should be able to score goals at this level and he's sold Braithwaite and Bamford in the past two windows who score goals at this level as well.

"So whilst Boro need another striker, there is clearly an issues with the style of play that is hindering these players and Maja would be no different."

Gary Hutchinson:

"Maja to Boro? Not a chance.

"I don't care if it's good form them or not, it would be a truly terrible switch for him.

"They don't play to his strengths and looking at Assombalonga and Braithwaite, they cast good players aside too.

"Surely he has more sense?"

Jay Taylor:

"This could be a shrewd bit of business by Middlesbrough.

"Pulis needs flair in attack and a clinical striker.

"Maja is that, and he can also play out wide if needed.

"It could be a signing that fills a void at the Riverside and gets their faltering promotion bid back on track."
