Premier League giants Liverpool are monitoring Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho’s situation at Craven Cottage ahead of the January transfer window, Football League World revealed yesterday.

The advanced midfielder, who can also operate on the wing, was one of the Cottagers’ main shining lights at the beginning of the campaign but has suffered with a toe injury and Covid-19 since, only making five appearances so far this term and being out of action since the end of August.

Considering the England youth international scored three goals and recorded one assist in those five matches, an impressive record considering his age, this absence must be a real source of frustration for the youngster.

Stefan Johansen?

However, this hasn’t deterred Jurgen Klopp’s men from taking an interest in the 19-year-old, with his contract at Craven Cottage running out next summer and looking set to leave the west London outfit unless he puts pen to paper on fresh terms with Marco Silva’s men.

As per FLW sources, the Cottagers remained confident last month that they would be able to secure a new agreement with one of their rising stars, although a potential change in representation company in January means he’s unlikely to agree a contract extension until then.

From a Liverpool point-of-view, this could be an exciting opportunity to snap him up in the next 12 months.

Ahead of this potential move, we asked three of our writers at Football League World whether they think he would be a good signing for the Reds and whether he would be a much-needed figure at Anfield.

Ned Holmes

This could be a sensational signing for Liverpool.

Carvalho was exceptional for the Cottagers in the early weeks of the season and despite his age, he quickly emerged as a key part of their attacking unit.

He’s someone with such a high ceiling and a technical player that you feel could thrive in the top flight in a few years’ time.

If Liverpool can capitalise on his contract situation and snap him up relatively cheaply it could be a signing that we look back on in a few years as a masterstroke.

He’s not the complete package yet but he really is that exciting a talent.

Liverpool have got some fantastic young players coming through but an opportunity like this shouldn’t be missed.

George Dagless

He’s not needed yet but could be in the future as he obviously has great talent.

I do wonder whether big clubs are looking at the stalling of the contract and are in two minds over it.

In one sense it’s good for them as there is a chance he could be available on the cheap but on the other you have to wonder who is advising him really because staying at Fulham and playing regularly, I believe, is the best step for him at this stage.

Even so, you cannot deny his talent and potential and it’s no shock Liverpool are among the clubs taking a look at him among others.

They obviously know with Harvey Elliott that Fulham have a knack of developing top youngsters and Carvalho certainly looks another example of that.

Chris Thorpe

I think it’s a good signing for the future, definitely.

He has a lot of ability and has already proved that he is good enough to perform at a high level in the Championship.

The main question will be whether he can transfer that form to the Premier League or not.

Furthermore, I wouldn’t say he’s necessarily needed by the Reds right now as they are pretty well stocked in midfield and in the forward areas.

This could quite easily be an example of when they bring in a young player and immediately loan them out to a Championship side.
