Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi will be pleased with his side's start to the season, with Forest in sixth place in the Championship just two points adrift of leaders Leeds United.

Off the pitch Lamouchi is planning for the long-term, with the club confirming on its official website a new deal for academy product Brennan Johnson.

Johnson, 18, has already made one Championship and two Carabao Cup appearances so far this season so is seemingly a player held in high regard by Lamouchi.

So is wrapping up a new-deal for Johnson, a good move by the club?

We discuss........

Josh Cole

“This could be a masterstroke by Nottingham Forest and Sabri Lamouchi.

“One of the most exciting players to emerge from the Reds’ academy in recent years, Johnson has already illustrated some real signs of promise this season in the Carabao Cup.

“Whilst it is fair to say that the forward is by no means the finished product, he unquestionably possesses a great of talent and thus Lamouchi will be determined to get the very best out of him over the coming months.

“Providing that Johnson is able to make a real impact for Forest, there is no reason why he cannot play an important role in helping the club launch a sustained push for promotion in the Championship."

Chris Gallagher

"This is fantastic news for Forest.

"Johnson is the latest highly-rated player to emerge from the academy and he has already shown in glimpses with the first-team that he has a lot of talent.

"Lamouchi is clearly a fan and he will have high hopes for the attacker moving forward. So from a football perspective it's fully deserved and from a financial one it's good that they have protected an asset. They have acted swiftly and it is smart business from Forest.

"Now, it should give the player the confidence to kick on and he will hope to stay in and around the squad this season and to make an impact when any more opportunities come his way."

Toby Wilding

"I think this is a very smart move by Forest.

"With Johnson already starting to play a part for the first-team this season at the age of just 18, it certainly seems as though he has a raft of potential to be exploited for years to come.

"Given that Forest have now tied him to this new contract, it looks as though it will be who benefit from that for some time yet, and you can only imagine that Johnson will continue to improve the more experience he gains in the game.

"Indeed, with both England and Wales reportedly on his tail for an international call up, it seems it would have only been a matter of time before club sides started circling in the same way, so Forest have done well to ward off that interest with this new deal here."
