Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has injury concerns ahead of his side's League Cup first round clash away at Scunthorpe tonight, with defender Jayden Bogle sidelined with an ankle injury, as reported in the Derby Telegraph.

Bogle, 19, had featured in both of the Rams' opening Championship fixtures, but had to be withdrawn early in the second half of the goalless draw with Swansea at the weekend, that resulted in a scan on an injured ankle.

So how big a blow would it be for Derby, if Bogle's injury proves to be a serious one?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"It would be an enormous blow.

"I don't think you can underestimate just how important Bogle is to Derby in both an attacking and defensive sense.

"He is irreplaceable as they come in the Derby squad and losing him for a lengthy period of time could really throw the Rams off their stride.

"Full-backs are more important than ever in the modern game and I honestly think Derby need him fit and firing if they are to stand a chance of promotion."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a big loss for Derby.

"Bogle was one of the standout breakthrough players of their push for promotion last season, and having already bid farewell to a number of those following the expiration of their loans, they would surely not want to lose another one long term here.

"With Bogle out, it does seem as though the Rams have now been left slightly exposed down the right-hand side of their defence, with Andre Wisdom now the club's only senior available in that position, meaning they are already walking a tightrope in that position so early in the season.

"The fact that this has come is also likely to sting, given the fact that the summer transfer window has only just closed, meaning Derby are now unable to bring in a replacement for Bogle until January, should he be out for that long."

Kealan Hughes

“This could be a major setback.

"He was crucial to the way they played last season and it has only taken him one match this season to prove how important he will be in Cocu’s system.

“Without Harry Wilson Derby lacked width against Huddersfield or Swansea, and Bogle was their main threat out wide, and without his pace and willingness to go forward Derby could be slow in possession and they could struggle to score goals.

“He is also brilliant defensively and uses his pace to harry attackers and prevent crosses coming into the box, and he and Keogh know each other’s games very well, which helps the defence as a unit massively.

“However, Derby do have an adequate replacement in Andre Wisdom, and whilst he doesn’t match the intensity of Bogle he is good defensively and should maintain The Rams’ strong defensive record, with the team having only conceded a penalty so far this season.”
