Sunderland are said to be rivalling the likes of Norwich and Leeds to the signing of promising midfielder, Jake Hastie according to the Daily Record.

The youngster has been impressive for Scottish side, Motherwell this season and has made five appearances for the first-team in a breakthrough season for the winger.

Sunderland had scouts watching him in action against St Mirren in midweek, and they would have been impressed with Hastie netting the opener on the night.

He evidently has a bright future ahead of him and could prove to be a real asset to whichever team manages to strike a deal for him.

If Hastie was to sign for Sunderland, then he could be a Championship player by then, with the Black Cats challenging for promotion this season.

But would Hastie be a good signing for Jack Ross' side?

We discuss....

George Harbey:

"This could be a great signing for Sunderland.

"Jack Ross obviously knows a lot about the Scottish leagues and will have some good connections up there.

"He's already signed a very good, young player in Lewis Morgan, and Hastie could be another exciting addition."

Louie Chandler:

"Not necessarily needed.

"I would be surprised if Sunderland went for him considering their current cost-cutting measurements.

"I imagine he would only arrive if Aiden McGeady were to depart. In which case, it would be a very solid signing."

Jacob Potter:

"This would be a smart bit of business.

"Hastie is a talented and exciting prospect who has a bright future ahead of him.

"I'm not sure Sunderland will be able to compete with the likes of Leeds to secure a deal for him, but they've got to do everything they can to try and sign him."
