Fulham manager Scott Parker may have to consider life without full-back Joe Bryan, with Southampton interested in a January deal for the 23-year-old left-back, according to a report on Football Insider.

Bryan is having an excellent season for Fulham having played for them in the Premier League last season, after joining from Bristol City and has played in all but one of Fulham's Championship games this season, having made 57 appearances for the club altogether, scoring twice.

So would Bryan be a good addition at St Mary's and is he good enough for the Premier League?

We discuss.........

Ned Holmes

"This could be a fantastic signing for Southampton.

"Bryan is one of the best left-backs in the Championship–someone that is very athletic, dangerous going forward and for the most part, solid at the back.

"With the prices that Premier League teams are paying for players at the moment, £7 million for a player that will be pushing for a first-team start looks a shrewd bit of business.

"You'd imagine a certain return to the Premier League may turn the defender's head, with Fulham only sitting in the play-off places."

Luke Phelps

“Southampton have been after a left-back all season and now they’ve joined the race for Joe Bryan along with Watford. This transfer news surprised Fulham fans somewhat - he’s a decent player but he’s not had the best season so far.

“Fulham had a nightmare in the Premier League last season but Bryan was one of the few saving graces for Scott Parker’s side. He’s a dynamic full-back who loves to get forward but like a lot of full-backs like that, his defending isn’t always where it should be.

“I’m not sure that this is a signing that will keep Southampton in the Premier League - Bryan has been close to being dropped for Fulham this season because some of his performances have been that abject. Nevertheless though, Fulham would jump at £7 million for him.

“The Londoners have a couple of good full-backs and replacing Bryan shouldn’t be that difficult. Fans won’t lose too much sleep if he departs for the Saints, and a sum of £7 million would go down rather nicely.”

Phil Spencer

“There’s no doubting that Joe Bryan has what it takes to compete in the Premier League.

“Despite having injury troubles last term, the full-back showed that he could make the step up when playing for Fulham – something that he’ll be hoping to do again with the Cottagers.

“If that opportunity arises sooner in the shape of a move to Southampton it’s certainly something for him to think about, especially with the Saints likely to be embroiled in a relegation battle.

“Perhaps the 26-year-old would be better served being patient and seeing if he can make the step up under Scott Parker.”
