Young England U20 full back Jake Clarke-Salter has put in a series of strong performances on the left side of the defence in England’s famous run to the final of the U20 World Cup in South Korea.

The youngster joined Chelsea’s academy in 2008 having being released by the same youth system only a year earlier, and has gone on to establish himself as a regular in the young sides at Stamford Bridge.

A key member of several of the Blues’ FA Youth Cup winning squads in recent years, Clarke-Slater is emerging as one of the most promising left sided defenders of his generation, and will look to continue his progression next season.

With first team opportunities set to be limited at his parent club next season, a loan move is on the horizon, and Clarke-Salter should seize the opportunity to prove himself in the lower leagues.

Charlton Athletic are currently on the search for a new left back after loan signing Adam Chicksen returned to Brighton following a loan spell in south London, and Clarke-Salter is the perfect replacement for the defender.

A short spell at Bristol Rovers last season acclimatised the youngster to League One football, and with Charlton manager Karl Robinson harbouring promotion hopes this summer, Carshalton born Clarke-Salter should be high on his wishlist.

A strong defender with a keen desire to contribute going forward, the 19-year-old is more than capable of contributing to a League One title push.

At 6ft 2, Clarke-Salter is an imposing figure, and would add serious clout to the defence at The Valley.

Robinson should look to tie up a deal quickly, as interest in this promising full back is set to be rife in the coming weeks.
