Whether Sheffield United succeed in their late push for a play-off spot or not, few would argue that it hasn’t been a fine first season back in the Championship for the Blades.

Chris Wilder’s men have competed admirably in the second tier with the manager building a very capable squad that will hope to be near the top of the division again next season if they’re still a Championship side.

However, to do that Wilder will need to address some of the issues in the team, with signing a goalscorer a clear priority.

The lifelong-fan recognised the need to bring in a forward in January but unfortunately James Wilson has failed to deliver since arriving at Bramall Lane.

And, with Billy Sharp struggling at times and another year older, the Blades are sure to be in the market for a number nine.

One man who could be a fantastic option is Sean Maguire from Preston, who we at FLW value at around £4m.

The former Cork City striker has a very respectable nine goals from 20 games this season but more importantly, suits the profile of player that Wilder wants.

The 23-year old has got to where he is the hard way, playing in the lower leagues before going back to Ireland and earning his move.

His relentless work-rate would also suit the Blades as they rely on their forward players to put in work from the front. Additionally, he is only going to improve given his age and could become a long-term hero at Bramall Lane – like Sharp has been.

It all adds up to make Maguire the perfect signing for Sheffield United this summer as Wilder looks to address a big problem for his side.
