Lincoln City fans are still basking in the glory of the National League crown, but attentive manager Danny Cowley’s pre season preparations are well under way, with a number of new faces at Sincil Bank and the club currently in Portugal on a pre season tour.
The Imps faced a strong Benfica B side last night, and left the game with a respectful 3-1 defeat, but one new signing shone above the rest in the pre season run out.
Jordan Maguire-Drew linked up with the Imps earlier in the week on a season long loan deal from Premier League newcomers Brighton, and scored a fantastic curling strike from the edge of the area to open the scoring in Portugal.
The promising 19-year-old faced the Imps last season whilst on loan in the National League with Dagenham, and enjoyed a fantastic year in the highest level of non-league football, scoring 15 times from the wing as the Daggers fell to a play off semi final defeat.
Having already opened his account with the Imps, Maguire-Drew is expected to play a key role in the forthcoming campaign, in which many are tipping the Lincolnshire club to achieve back to back promotions.
Fellow wide Imp Nathan Arnold totted up 12 league goals last season as well as a last minute winner against Ipswich in Lincoln’s famous FA Cup run, and having such prolific scorers on opposite wings makes the club dangerous opposition heading into the new campaign.
The youngster is held in extremely high regard by the coaching staff at Brighton, and has a bright future ahead of him in the English game.
Another prolific campaign in the Football League with the Imps could help to force his way into the reckoning at the AMEX, and a series of solid performances will capture the attention of boss Chris Hughton.
Maguire-Drew will seize the opportunity afforded to him by Danny Cowley but rewarding the young manager’s trust, and Lincoln fans can expect the youngster to be the signing of the summer at Sincil Bank.
