Lee Johnson did extremely well to guide Bristol City to safety in the Sky Bet Championship last season, particularly after the pressure seemed to be mounting on the 35-year old in early 2017, when the Robins were looking a certainty for relegation.

It will now be the club’s target to avoid a relegation battle in the Championship next season, and to do that, Bristol must back Johnson throughout the summer transfer window, giving him the money to shape a capable squad.

Tammy Abraham’s departure from Ashton Gate at the end of his loan deal leaves Johnson in desperate need of a striker, but there are reinforcements needed in other areas of the Bristol team this summer, particularly right-back, where Mark Little’s departure has left a hole.

It is reportedly an area Johnson is looking to improve over the summer, with some suggestion that Bristol are tracking Celtic’s Saidy Janko and will compete with Sheffield Wednesday and Reading for his signature.

Janko would be an excellent signing for Johnson, offering Bristol a real attacking outlet from right-back.

The competition is reportedly fierce for Janko, who impressed during a loan spell with Barnsley last season in the Championship, but Johnson will be confident that if he offers the 21-year old regular football, he will move to Ashton Gate and snub Wednesday and Reading.

Signing Janko from Celtic, where he is seemingly out-of-favour, would not be a risk for the Robins, with the right-back picking up valuable Championship experience both with Barnsley last season and with Bolton Wanderers in 2015.

Janko’s attacking qualities mean he would be an excellent purchase for Bristol this summer, and the 21-year old could be the long-term solution to Little's departure from Ashton Gate.
