The fall-out from the deadline day collapse of the move of Swansea winger Daniel James to Leeds United continues, with the news that the Swans have opened contract talks with the 21-year-old whose current deal ends in the summer.

James was keen on the switch to Yorkshire having traveled to Elland Road and completed a medical, only for the deal to fall through at the eleventh hour when the Swansea hierachy decided they did not like the payment terms associated with the deal.

So are Swansea right to try and tie James down to a new deal?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

"It’s a bizarre move by Potter.

"Surely James isn’t going to want to sign a new deal after the mess that Swansea caused in January?

"I think he’s destined for a move to Leeds in the summer.

"They’re trying to fight the inevitable."

Louie Chandler

"This all has a bad stench to it.

"First they pull the plug on his move then expect him to sign a new deal?

"The Swansea hierarchy have shown themselves to be rather classless over the last few months."

Jay Taylor

“This is like a random think that Football Manager would throw up, but it’s all a mess to be honest.

“He was dead set on a move to Leeds now there are talks of him staying at Swansea, it’s all pretty strange.

“I thnk this is Swansea’s way of adding an insurance policy to get more money for him in the summer, especially if Leeds go up, they will have more money to spend more on the winger if still want him.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I bet it doesn’t happen.

“The player was set on Leeds, it collapsed but it won’t be the end of it.

“Swansea want to protect their investment, fair enough, but football is mercenary.

“Even if he does sign a deal, he’ll be a Leeds player next season.”
