There is no question that Liam Cooper has improved significantly this season.

Slated as a League One player at best last season by numerous fans ,he has up until now forged a solid partnership with Pontus Jansson.

It almost as if he has learned a lot from the popular Swede and played with a lot more confidence.

In the defeat to Cardiff City we saw the old Cooper emerge.

He got himself sent off which sealed the win for a powerful Cardiff side.

As Leeds were 2-0 down at the time, fans were blaming him for that as well. Pontus is like Teflon.

So, the £900k-rated centre-back will be missing for the Sheffield Wednesday game on Sunday lunchtime.

A fit again Matthew Pennington will surely be picked to take his place.

If the young Everton loanee has a blinder I can see Leeds coach Thomas Christiansen keeping him in the side, despite Cooper being club captain.

It will be a shame for Cooper if Pennington will be favoured from now on.

It’s just that Pennington has impressed every game he’s been in.

Cooper has baggage, fans don’t forget.

I like the look of Pennington.

He showed he has class when he came on against Cardiff. Has done since the Bolton game. No disrespect to Cooper but I do think that the Jansson/Pennington centre back pairing is the best one for this season.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Pennington will be keen to take his window of opportunity on Sunday.
