Relegation from the Premier League sparked an exodus at Sunderland, with a number of their big earning stars running down their contracts and leaving once the clock had struck on the Black Cat's time in the top flight.

One man to jump ship after a long six year spell at the club was midfielder Sebastian Larsson, who could now be set to link up with Hull City following firm interest from boss Leonid Slutsky.

The 90-cap Swede has been a free agent since June, but has maintained his fitness during the offseason, and would represent an extremely experienced addition to the Russian boss’ side.

Larsson had gauged interest from across the globe, with the player a well known figure across the global game following a long spell in the Premier League and significant international exposure, but it appears the lure of English football was too much to resist.

Hull are in need of further reinforcements having witnessed an exodus of their own following their relegation, and adding Larsson to the mix would provide the Tigers with alternative options in the middle of the park.

The Swede has the ability to sit, or operate further forward, and could play a key role as Hull aim to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Many will feel that Larsson is past his best and the Humberside club should seek younger options, but at the age of 32, Larsson is young enough to still have an impact.

Slutsky will add further men to his squad in the coming weeks, and claims his chances of attracting top players will have been enhanced by their opening weekend display at Villa.

Signing free agent Larsson is a low risk option, and taking a gamble is a reasonable move.

Is Larsson worth a punt, Hull fans?
