Cardiff City are heading to the Premier League and now it is time for Neil Warnock to get busy in the transfer market.

This summer will be challenging for the Bluebirds as they need to add quality and strength in depth to their squad ahead of their Premier League survival bid, while also being wary of rocketing World Cup prices as they will be operating on a relatively small budget compared to the other top flight sides.

One area Cardiff need to strengthen is up front, with top scorers Junior Hoilett (11), Callum Paterson (10) and Kenneth Zohore (nine) unlikely to replicate that haul in the top flight.

Warnock could look to sign Jay Rodriguez after West Bromwich Albion were relegated.

Here, FLW shines a spotlight on Rodriguez's season for the Baggies and considers whether Cardiff should line up a swoop.

Rodriguez played 37 out of West Brom's 38 games this season as he was a key player despite their relegation.

Having a full season behind him was important for the once-capped England international, who needed game time to get his full fitness back following a long-term injury while at Southampton.

The 28-year-old scored seven goals and got one assist last term, which looks mediocre at first glance but considering his lack of service from other players, it is not a bad return.

Rodriguez's versatility also makes him a useful option: not only does he play up front, he is also comfortable in the number 10 role or as a winger.

The stumbling block here might be finances: West Brom are under no pressure to sell after Rodriguez penned a four-year deal last summer, committing him to the club until 2021.

His wages will also be hefty and the Baggies would want to recoup as much of the £12m transfer fee they paid for him as possible.

But if Cardiff could come up with a financial package which would allow Rodriguez to join, they should definitely go for it.

The former Burnley forward is an improvement on their current options and he is surely not going to be content with playing Championship football for West Brom.
