The ache of missing out on promotion to the top-flight for the second successive season will remain for weeks and months to come, but it's time for Sheffield Wednesday's players to put that behind them.

They can do that by hitting the league running from the word go and with a few additions in pivotal positions that need improvement, then the Owls could be marching to the top-two of the division next year.

One acquisition I recommend the club makes, whether Carlos Carvalhal remains or not, is £680k-rated Aberdeen attacker Jonny Hayes.

The Republic of Ireland international has gained recognition for his prolific form this campaign in the Scottish Premiership, racking up serious interest from Neil Warnock and Cardiff City back in January.

Hayes has been hitting the headlines for the number of goals he has been creating over the last ten months; 18 assists makes him one of the league's most efficient providers and bagged a further nine to help aid the Dons' Europa League push.

There is no doubt within my mind to suggest the 29 year-old would be a flop in the Championship and if anything, Sheffield Wednesday would be making a very large mistake if they didn't follow through on the target.

The luxury of European football may make it difficult for Jonny Hayes to cross the border, however, he may want to play in the Premier League at some point and his best chance of doing that is by becoming a player at Hillsborough.

Wednesday fans, would you be satisfied if Jonny Hayes arrived at the club? Does he offer anything currently lacking? Tell us your opinions in the comments below!
