After helping Birmingham City avoid relegation last term, Harry Redknapp has managed to recruit three new players already this summer, including making Craig Garner a permanent transfer from Midlands rival West Brom.

However, the transfer window is far from over, and if Redknapp wishes to push the Blues further up the table, and maybe attempt to obtain a play-off spot, he will definitely need to continue adding to his squad.

An area which Birmingham need to strengthen is their midfield, as outside of Gardner, Maikel Kieftenbeld and David Davis, the Blues need more squad depth in that position.

Current free agent Sulley Muntari, who is valued at £425,000 on Transfermarkt, would be a good addition to add cover in the midfield for when the games start coming thick and fast.

Muntari is an experienced midfielder having played in three different leagues, which includes his time under Redknapp at Portsmouth back in the 2007/08 Premiership season.

Redknapp signed the Ghanaian for Pompey from Italian club Udinese back in 2007, and bought for a club record fee at the time. Muntari is known for having a strong relationship with Redknapp, and would surely be willing to return to England to reunite with the 70-year-old.

The seasoned international would work as an engine in Birmingham's midfield and would provide great cover, and also allow Gardner to advance forward more freely if played alongside the Englishman.

With Muntari currently sitting on the free agent's list, a move for the 32-year-old wouldn't cost much, and if he is able to remain fit throughout the full season, it would be a remarkable piece of business for the Blues.

The only thing holding Muntari back from a return to England would be his wage demands, however with Birmingham's new owners funding a move for the midfielder, that shouldn't be an issue.
