One goal in his last nine games represents a pretty poor run of form for Nottingham Forest forward Britt Assombalonga, who has been struggling to get amongst the goals in recent weeks in the Championship.

Whilst the likes of Ben Brereton and Zach Clough have both burst onto the scene for the Reds, it's been a different story for fan-favourite Assombalonga, who has only managed ten goals this campaign.

Compared to seasons past, these aren't the best of figures in the slightest and some have been questioning whether or not the 24-year-old is needed at the City Ground going forward, especially with Ben Brereton continuing to grab the headlines with his encouraging performances.

The 17-year-old forward has enjoyed some real success in the first-team in his debut season and he's looking to be a really big player for the Reds team in seasons to come.

But for £4.25 million-rated Assombalonga, the future is looking a little more unclear.

His struggle to get goals combined with Mark Warburton's need to bring in new players when the summer eventually rolls around has left some questioning Assombalonga's future.

Granted, he's an undoubtedly good player at this level and he's proved that many times in seasons past.

But time moves on quickly in the Championship these days and more than ever, players need to take the chances they are given to really succeed.

The progress of Brereton and the early signs of promise we're seeing from former Bolton man Zach Clough shows just how slow it's been over the past few months for Assombalonga, who still seems to be getting over his injury.

Whether he is moved on or not this summer remains to be seen but sadly for Assombalonga, there's a new striking star at the City Ground and that could make his journey to the top in the East Midlands a little more difficult going forward.
