Nottingham Forest helped their chances of staying in the Championship this weekend as they overcame Reading 3-2 at the City Ground, essentially ending any lingering hope Royals fans might have had of automatic promotion.

But it was the way in which the Reds won which impressed their supporters down in the East Midlands, who haven't seen much good football at home this season in the slightest.

And there was one man that really stood out amongst the rest for Forest and that was striker Britt Assombalonga, who hasn't had the easiest second half of the season in the slightest.

He's been out of form having recovered from injury and with Ben Brereton often being preferred in attack, the Congolese striker has had to play a real backseat role at times.

But his brace essentially gave his side the win over a Reading side that have been in the top-six for the majority of the season, no mean feat in the slightest.

The £4.25m-rated striker looked sharp, controlled the ball well and as you expect from a big man playing upfront, brought his teammates into the game and made things very difficult indeed for the Reading defence.

If he can bring this sort of form into next season, these could be extremely promising times indeed for Forest, who really haven't shown enough at all this campaign.

But with the summer ahead and a fresh start under Mark Warburton also improving things at the City Ground - keep an eye on Assombalonga, who might be the man to lead a Forest promotion push next season.
