Blackburn are going to need to have a huge summer, to ensure that they have a squad capable of giving them a chance of an immediate return to the Championship.

Tony Mowbray's side faced heartbreak on the final day of this season, as they were relegated to League One, even though they beat Brentford at Griffin Park.

The club have already begun recruiting ahead of the new season bringing in Richard Smallwood from Rotherham United and Peter Whittingham from Cardiff City, but manager Mowbray knows that he is going to have to bring in more new faces to bolster his ranks.

One area that Rovers are short of numbers at present is up top in attack, as they only have Anthony Stokes and Danny Graham registered as strikers ahead of the new season.

With this in mind, Blackburn and Mowbray should look to recruit Barnet striker John Akinde.

The £383k-rated forward had a terrific season in front of goal this term, scoring 26 goals and providing 3 assists in all competitions.

It is the third season running that Akinde, has scored 20+ goals in a season showing that he certainly is prolific in front of goal and could prove to be a very good acquisition for Blackburn and Tony Mowbray.

Starting his career at Gravesend and Northfleet, Akinde, has had no fewer than 7 permanent clubs throughout his career and also had plenty of loan spells at different clubs in England, but since joining Barnet in 2014 he hasn't looked back as he has scored 80 goals in 134 games for the club.

At 27 years of age Akinde, still has plenty of years left in him and could prove to be a very shrewd investment for Blackburn should they turn to him this window.
