Hull City have made a solid start to life under new manager Leonid Slutsky, who is embarking upon his first managerial job in English football.

The former CSKA Moscow and Russia boss took over from Watford-bound Marco Silva during a summer of huge change at the KCOM Stadium, which also saw the likes of Harry Maguire, Curtis Davies, and Tom Huddlestone all leave the club.

However, the Tigers have picked up two wins and a draw from their opening five Championship games, with victories over Burton Albion and Bolton Wanderers intertwined with defeats against Wolves and Queens Park Rangers, as well as a draw at Aston Villa.

And, despite much change, Slustky has moved to bring several new faces to the North East outfit, notably Michael Hector, Jon Toral, and Fraizer Campbell, and there could be another addition before Thursday’s 11pm deadline in the form of Wolves’ Nouha Dicko.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injury in the past few years and has since seen gametime hard to come by at Molineux, with the Mali international failing to start any of their five Championship games this term, albeit he did net off the bench in their win at Hull earlier this month.

And with Wolves splashing the cash over the summer, it doesn’t appear that his first team chances are going to improve, and Slutsky and Hull are thus reportedly looking to strike a £3.5 million deal for the forward.

And it could indeed turn out to be a shrewd addition by the Hull hierarchy, as although Dicko has struggled since returning from injury, his form prior to injury was particularly impressive, and the sort of form that could hugely benefit Hull should he rediscover it.

The 25-year-old made a fast start to his Wolves career with 13 goals in just 19 games to help them to promotion from League One in the second half of the 2013/14 campaign, and he then took it up another level by bagging 14 times in just 37 games upon their return to the second tier, thus helping them to a seventh place finish.

In fact, Dicko has scored 28 goals and laid on 14 assists in 113 Championship matches during his career, which albeit aren’t the most impressive of figures, certainly aren’t bad for a player who missed much of 2015 and 2016 with injury.

And with Abel Hernandez set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Slutsky quite simply had to make a move for a forward, otherwise the Tigers would have been short going into the remainder of the campaign.

Ultimately, Dicko could be that man - prior to injury, he was one of the form players in the Championship and one who struck fear into second tier backlines.

He hasn’t necessarily returned to that level since injury but surely with the more football he plays and confidence he accumulates, it’s just a matter of time.

And Hull will be the beneficiaries in what could turn out to be an excellent addition at the KCOM Stadium.
